This Fall, my environmental art will appear in exhibitions in Tennessee, Toronto, New York and California. If you live near any of these venues, please let me know if you can attend the openings or gallery talks. It would be great to see you!
AVIANTO: A solo show of my environmental art at Tennessee Tech University
After delays due to Covid, my show AVIANTO finally opened at the Joan Derryberry Art Gallery at Tennessee Tech University. Art Gallery Director, Charlene Lachiotte and her talented team did a beautiful job hanging the show.
Gallery Talk: Thursday 5 p.m. on SEPT 14, 2023
AVIANTO has already attracted international press coverage:

WORLD OF THREADS FESTIVAL (WOT), Local, National & International Contemporary Fibre Art
Covid also affected the World of Threads Festival, the largest textile exhibition in North America. This much anticipated international biennial finally opens again after a 5-year hiatus and features work from Mexico, New Zealand, India, South Korea, Canada, and the United States. Curators Gareth Bate and Dawne Rudman use a unique curatorial approach. They develop the festival exhibition theme directly from the submissions which number in the 4,000s. This year, the main exhibition theme is abstract art using natural elements often incorporating repurposed or recycled materials. My largest mural, Devotional, which is part of my ongoing white series, checks all those boxes.
FOLLOW THE THREAD, A city-wide fiber event sponsored by ArteMorbida Magazine
ArteMorbida Magazine, the premier textile magazine based in Rome, Italy, is sponsoring a lower Manhattan fiber event that includes a walking tour of many galleries and studios featuring fiber art. I will be exhibiting with Michael Pribich at his Chinatown Studio, 99 Canal Street, Floor 3, Studio A.
I will be at the studio on November 4 – 5
TEXT & TEXTILES at Shelley Heffler Gallery in the Perez Art District
After a very successful speaking engagement last January at San Diego College of Continuing Education, I reconnected with artists in Southern California, especially Shelley Heffler, a former 360 Xochi Quetzal resident artist. Shelley and I have a long list of overlaps, including studying at FIT, growing up in metro NY, and an acute commitment to using recycled materials.
Shelley is a part of an exodus of artists out of LA, who have established an exciting new art destination in the desert between Palm Springs and Palm Desert, CA. Now that I have a body of work available in the US, Shelley was eager to share it with the burgeoning art community in Cathedral City.
This first show will feature 12 of my smaller framed pieces featuring my signature feathered artwork about endangered birds using recycled plastic. I’m excited to see how they are received. Of course, I’m looking forward to seeing SOCAL art and artists during my show
Gallery Walks: Friday, NOV 24 and Friday DEC 22, both at 4pm; I will be at the December Walk!
I already have four shows lined up in 2024 including in Perugia, Italy and Newcastle, Australia, so stay tuned for more exciting news!
