Phoenix Rising

Phoenix Rising is a sculpture that refers to the Centauress, a half woman, half horse, which first appeared in Greek culture. I was invited to make this piece as part of the Pony Up! Quarterhorse Project. The mane and skirt are made from my signature tail feathers that are made with recycled plastic and hand screen printed with images of endangered birds and over printed with text about the decline of global bird populations as a result of human induced climate change and habitat fragmentation.

Phoenix Rising
celebrates the strength and resilience of women who survive health emergencies and also the loss of children from many modern tragedies that threaten their survival. 50% of the sale of this piece will be donated to the Wade J. Woodmark Foundation, Inc, whose project Wade’s House exists to support & heal families who have lost a child.
