I am excited to announce my solo exhibition at Block Gallery in Raleigh, North Carolina. The curator, Stacy Bloom-Rexode, contacted me through LinkedIn (good reminder to keep your LI profiles current!). Over the nine months preceding the show, the curator met with me at my art studio in Durham, NC and on Zoom to discuss which artwork to include in the show and related exhibition topics.
The show presents a body of my artwork motivated by bird extinction, and the loss of indigenous languages around the world. Both of these problems are the result of human-induced climate change and habitat fragmentation.
This exhibition will include 22 works, most of which were completed in the last two years.
Two of my large scale environmental murals will be featured including Devotional, which debuted at The World of Threads Festival in Toronto, Canada last winter and Blackbird, part of my new series of work using primarily black feathers.
Making large scale artwork requires many hands. I am fortunate to work with a team of hardworking studio assistants who collaborate with me to produce the thousands of feathers required for these environmental murals.

The Block Gallery is the municipal gallery of Raleigh, North Carolina and located in the bustling downtown capital. The gallery is two stories high and accessible either by elevators or by a striking spiral staircase located in the middle of the building.
All of the artwork in the show is for sale and there are many affordable smaller works available.
For the last year, the artist has created a collection of small work scaled to fit in intimate spaces in the home or office and whose price tags make the work accessible for new collectors.
The show opens on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 and runs through April 25, 2025. Having a long exhibition like this allows me more time to schedule workshops and lectures at the gallery, at nearby arts organizations and also at colleges and universities in the region.
Check the Block Gallery Website for the schedule of related programs.
