Nest

Nestis a black, circular piece that evokes the dark side of nesting. The zip ties create a spiky texture throughout the piece and refer to the found plastic that birds increasingly use for their nest building materials. The artist makes feathers from  recycled plastic bags that are screen printed with images of endangered birds and overprinted with text in endangered indigenous languages.

Medium: Screen printing on recycled plastic bags, sewing, black plastic zip ties, paint
Size: 26 x 27 x 3.5″ Date: 2018

The other artists are Gibby Waitzkin, Holden Richards, Reni Gower and Jackie MacLeod. Rather than choosing a theme like Climate Change to unite the show, the Director, Susan Tierney, organized the show by including artists for whom process is a central part of their art practice.
