Cuadrado de la Luna is the second of a small series of squares that uses scraps of Kruger’s signature plastic feathers cut into small round feather medallions. Using her own scraps has been part of Kruger’s art practice for many years. In this piece, there is a center circle of gold feathers surrounded by darker black feathers. All of Kruger’s work is inspired by how climate change is contributing to extinction, especially of birds. By using her own scraps Kruger deepens our understanding about how everyone’s decisions impact our local and global ecology.
