Kimono

In a departure from map shapes, Kimono echoes the form of this classic Japanese garment. Although Deborah’s work is often characterized by intense color, she also gravitates to a quieter white palette. Kimonois composed of mostly white feathers with swirls of red and black for contrast. These feathers are silk-screened on recycled plastic bags and if you look closely, you will see images of endangered birds and endangered languages.  Kimono was chosen to represent Mexico in the Art Textile Biennale that traveled through Australia in 2021.
